10 quick tips

1.

With fresh flowers observe the ambient air temperature. Put them in a cooler place at night and keep them out of direct sunlight, heating or draft during the day.

2.

Even dry air can dry your bouquets and cause them to wilt, so we recommend you to slightly mist the leaves with water. Avoid, however, sprinkling the flowers themselves, water in such a form can cause their premature rotting.

3.

Caution! Never place flower bouquets near TVs or monitors. The heat they emit causes the flowers wilt more quickly.

4.

An interesting fact is that flowers should not be left near the ripening fruits and vegetables, in particular bananas and apples, because they emit ethylene, which causes rapid wilting of your flowers.

5.

A clean vase, washed in hot water, should be a natural setting for your bouquet. This prevents spreading of harmful microorganisms. A great help to disinfect vases is the classic Savo or a small amount of soda, which is particularly appreciated by gerberas.

6.

The water in the vase needs to be changed every 2-3 days. When using special products to extend the life of flowers, it needs to be topped up only after it was absorbed by flowers.

Tip

Tulips are beautiful, but very thirsty flowers we do not change the water, on the contrary, we keep adding it. Nevertheless, a smaller amount in the vase will be sufficient. On the contrary, hydrangeas require a lot of water, so fill the vase to the maximum.

7.

Be sure to cut the stems, always when you change the water. Cut them transversely, under running lukewarm water with temperature of up to 25 °C (77 °F). The stem should be cut at the sharpest possible angle.

8.

Prior to inserting them into the vase, remove the leaves that could be immediately immersed in the water. They are quicker to rot in the vase and cause the release of harmful substances into the water. This fact can be observed especially in roses, which release into the water a toxic substance that negatively affects other flowers in the vase.

Tip

If your flowers get very wilted, immerse them with the leaves for about an hour in the water – they will come to life beyond recognition!

9.

Choose the flower bouquets according to season. In the summer months, choose arrangements combined with tropical or thermophilic flowers. Because they grow in warmer climatic conditions, they can last longer even at higher temperatures. Especially good is the variety of flowers grown outdoors.

Tip

In a hot summer, take the orchid, protei, anturia or sunflowers. Fragrant peonies are beautiful and very popular early summer. If you bet on roses, you already win. They are rich and beautiful during all summer months. On the contrary, the tulips do not tolerate the heat very well, so they last in vases for a couple of days during the summer.

10.

In mixed bouquets, remove the flowers that first begin to wilt. They tend to release harmful substances – rotting bacteria and fungi – and thus have a negative impact on other flowers.

Extra tips

• Popular tulips tend to grow and it is natural for them to bend their stems. To keep them as long as possible, immerse their stems each morning in the ice water and regularly trim them according to the instructions above.

• Tulips are good to be put in a vase separately. Avoid especially their combination with narcissis.

• If you receive a floral gift consisting of the beautiful hydrangea with woody stems, trim them, but on the contrary, immerse their stems about 1 cm in the boiling water. Thanks to this secret florist trick you will enjoy them for a long time.
